This is the time of year in that rain storms are more likely to occur. While this weather is great for the grass in our yards, it can make driving more difficult. That’s why the team at Finish Line would like to present you with five easy steps to improve driving in the rain.

• Replace your wipers: Are your wiper blades skipping, streaking, or squeaking? If so, it’s time for some new ones. You can also inspect your blades for corrosion or other damage that might indicate a need for a change. Buying new blades will do wonders for enhancing your visibility and help you better react to anything that happens while you are on the road.
• Eliminate distractions: If it is raining, driving demands your complete attention. Keep your eyes glued on the road or your mirrors and both hands on the wheel.
• Drive at a comfortable speed: While cruise control is a great invention, a rainstorm is not the time to use it. Even if cars are speeding around you, you can stay below the posted speed limits and maintain a speed you feel good about.
• Don’t tailgate!: Stay at least five car lengths, or one second per ten miles per hour, behind the car in front of you. This should give you enough time to brake quickly or react to anything that may happen in front of you.
• Be prepared: Skidding and hydroplaning can happen to anyone, even the safest driver. Never slam on the brakes if you start skidding. Remain calm and slowly steer in the direction you need to travel. Follow a similar process if you begin hydroplaning (when your travels on top of water and has little to no contact with the ground). Don’t make any sudden movements, let off the gas, and slowly steer in the direction you need to go.
