Things to keep in mind before your vehicle breaks down on you.
So, maybe you managed to pass your driving test the first time. Don’t go letting yourself think that you’re now invincible on the roads, though! Even if you were, your car certainly isn’t. Therefore, it’s important to know what to do when your car breaks down, before it ends up happenings. Here’s everything you need to know.
Get Your Vehicle Off The Road
Hopefully, they’ll be enough juice left in your dying car for you to be able to get it off the road. This is especially important if you are on a motorway or busy road with lots of traffic travelling quickly down it. If you can’t get your car off the road, then immediately turn your hazard lights on to alert others drivers of your situation.
Step Out Of The Car
It’s not safe to sit in your vehicle, especially if it is smoking from the hood. This will do your lungs no good, and the car could be in danger of setting on fire if something is seriously wrong. Be sure to stand safely away from both the vehicle and the roadside to ensure your safety. Before you do, however, make sure your car is as far away from the road as possible and turn the wheels to the left. You don’t want another car to hit yours as it’s flying past!
Wear Something Bright And Reflective
If you have high visibility jackets lying around in your trunk, then get them out and put them on. Provide anybody who is a passenger in your vehicle with the same. This will attract the attention of other drivers and keep you visible and safe. If you don’t have any of these already, then we recommend picking some up. They’re essentials, really.
Have A Spare Tyre In Your Boot
Should a tire go flat and cause you to break down, then you’re going to need to be able to replace it. You’ll need a spare in your trunk, and a car jack to help install it at the roadside. You can pick these up from Finish Line Tire and Automotive. Now, should you ever breakdown due to a tire, you’ll be fully prepared!
Call For Help
If there’s nothing you can do about the car yourself, or the vehicle looks beyond repair, then it’s probably time to call for help. Hopefully, you have towing coverage from AAA or through your insurance. You don’t want to be in the sticky situation of being stranded but with nobody to call! Be sure to carry your membership card at all times to ensure that you know the number to call should anything happen!
Keep these things in mind. Then hopefully you shouldn’t have much trouble in a situation where your car breaks down. It’s so important to stay safe on the roads, we can’t stress that enough. So, follow this advice and your breakdown will be a lot less stressful than otherwise.
Keep your car properly maintained
In addition, keeping your vehicle properly maintained and inspected will go a long way to help keep you on the road. Having your vehicle maintenance done at Finish Line Tire and Automotive can give you added peace of mind that your vehicle is performing at its best and has been safety inspected on a regular basis.
